2020 - 2021 Canberra Turnaround - Wildflowers

The  ‘Turn Around - Canberra Wildflowers’  series celebrates  the amazing wildflower season Canberra has had in 2020 and 2021. Cunningham  has created a series of images using  geometric forms referencing the parliamentary  flagpole as a symbol for Canberra and coloured with a palette derived from  diverse Canberra Wildflowers. Cunningham focuses on the joy and hope that comes from finding exquisite  wildflowers on her daily walks.  She has used this process as catharsis to deal with personal and collective anxiety - the act of hunting for these ‘treasures’  has increased the artist’s mindfulness whilst exercising and reflects the changes in  the outdoor habits of the daily walks taken (or not)  by the community during the bushfires and the COVID-19 shutdown; and the artists indomitable attraction to colour.

A selection of small prints of these works will be exhibited at the Gallery of Small Things in October 2021.
